Welcome to the Children's Department

Visit our fun and bright space full of books, toys, coloring, and computers. We provide materials, events, and services for children, birth through 12 years. Our friendly staff are happy to recommend great books for every age and reading level. Come to read, play, learn, and connect!

Age Policy

StoryWalk®* at Mohegan Park

Otis Library’s summer learning theme is Read, Renew, Repeat. We’ve taken the theme to Mohegan Park with our new story, Dear Earth, written by
Erin Dealey and illustrated by Luisa Uribe. Read the story as you stroll along the peaceful, accessible path surrounding Spaulding Pond at Norwich’s beautiful Mohegan Park.

What is a StoryWalk®? 

Laminated pages from a picturebook are posted along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you are directed to the next page of the story. 

StoryWalk® encourages people of all ages (who says picturebooks are just for kids?) to enjoy the outdoors and reading at the same time. StoryWalks® have been installed across the nation and around the world!

Book Bundles

The Children’s Department is offering Book Bundles! Fill out an easy online form about your child’s age and interests and staff will curate a bundle of books for you to check out at circulation. We can also include videos, music and toys with requests. Book bundles are ready in 1-3 days and patrons have one week to pick them up.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Reading aloud to your child is an essential part of language development. The 1000 Books program was designed to help with the process. Visit the Library after each 100 books read to receive a sticker, new log sheet, and prize for select milestones.
