Be a super reader! Read for fun and earn cool prizes!
The 500 Books Before Middle School program, sponsored by Friends of Otis Library, is designed to help inspire kids to become life-long readers! Proficiency in reading by fourth grade is a strong predictor of academic achievement. By reading 2 books per week a child will read 500 books in less than 5 years!
Who can join:
All children 5 years old entering Kindergarten through fifth grade.
Track your reading:
Visit the library to receive the reading log sheet or download and print a copy from the Otis Library website.
Mark off a circle for every book read.
Visit the library after every 50 books read to receive a prize and a new log sheet.
Milestone prizes are awarded as follows:

Each 50 books read: choose a prize like scented bookmarks, backpack charms, collectible erasers, color-changing pencils, and more.
250 books read: Reading buddy plushie
500 books read: choose a new book to keep
As an additional recognition for 500 Books Read:
Parents or guardians can choose to have their child’s name and accomplishment displayed inside a book in the Otis Library Children’s collection.
